"... can offset the carbon output of one person a day."
Awesome. Truly effective.
"PNC, which provides banking and wealth management services, estimates it will be 25 percent cooler behind the wall than the ambient summer temperatures."
Source - www.inhabitat.com25 percent cooler on the 1/100th of the building that this sign covers? Please. It's a just a sign, call it what it is.
What has this sign really gotten PNC? Front page coverage in the NYT, a posting on Archinect and mention in tons of green blogs. Effective marketing, yes, effective sustainable design, no.
PNC is indeed a leader in sustainable architecture - they have more LEED certified buildings than any other company, which is an excellent step. Are they a leader in high-quality LEED certified buildings? Nope - Gensler and Astorino are responsible for this one.

Saying this will condition the interior spaces is a bit of a stretch. I would have been more happy if they hadn't tried to justify it with some silly pragmatism and just made it happen.
The artist for this is wall is the same one who worked with Jean Nouvel on the Musee du Quai Branly.
I agree - my main complaint was with the salesmanship. The artist legitimizes it to an extent, but if only they hadn't used the 'green wall' as a band-aid but made it a part of the architecture.
